DATA ENGINEER

Check is growing constantly. City by city. Country by country. The amount and complexity of our data grows every day. Check is therefore looking for a Data Engineer. Responsible for re-building, maintaining and developing our data architecture.

Full-time · Amsterdam

IN A NUTSHELL.

You will be the owner of our data and act as the main point of contact for all the data needs at Check. This includes playing a key role in restructuring our entire data architecture, preparing it for rapid future growth.

ABOUT CHECK.

Check is a fast-growing shared mobility platform, providing the easiest way around town. We believe urban mobility can be more efficient and we want everyone in every city to be able to reach their destination within 15 minutes. We do this by introducing new and smart forms of mobility. Our shared e-mopeds are available in cities throughout The Netherlands and Germany.

In February 2020, we launched our first 160 e-mopeds in Rotterdam and within 6 months we 10x-ed that, opening in Amsterdam, The Hague and Breda. Not long thereafter we turned profitable as a company at group level and became an international company by opening our first German city: Düsseldorf. In the meantime, Check added Groningen and Leeuwarden to its service and more locations are lining-up, having our next 10x in the crosshairs.

THE ROLE.

You will be joining the Product Team as a Data Engineer. The Product team built Check’s entire platform in-house. Our apps, back-end systems, custom tools and integrations and data warehouse are fully in our hands. The Product Team determines how to manage, develop and scale the platform. As a team member, you will join this conversation of how we go about it. This means working together with all our teams with one shared goal in mind: growing Check.

As a Data Engineer you will fully own the data domain at Check. You will act as the main point of contact for all of the company’s data needs, which may arise from running business, strategic initiatives or other sources within the company. A key position, as data is at the core of what we do. You share knowledge company-wide and actively involve other teams in your considerations and decisions.

Your initial focus will be on restructuring our entire data architecture. As we’ve been growing rapidly, we are increasingly facing issues in the load of our data pipelines on busy days. We believe we should therefore revise the architecture of our data warehouse. You will prepare the way we collect, store, organise, analyse and share data for the future, making sure we have a scalable, lean and effective solution in place. In addition, you’ll be actively involved in defining the strategy of the Product Team, which includes identifying valuable new opportunities.

You’ll attend the off-site Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) together with the rest of the Check team to brainstorm about the future of the company (and - of course - to #enjoytheride).
